Mercury Rising

Funny, isn’t it, how the right song at the right time can re-boot one’s entire mood; can give one some sorely needed perspective. Such a moment came tonight. There I was, bumming over matters that wouldn’t be easily explained in a forum such as this, when a lyric came trickling out of the radio:

I’ve paid my dues, time after time.
I’ve done my sentence, but committed no crime.
And bad mistakes, I’ve made a few.
I’ve had my share of sand kicked in my face,
But I’ve come through…

I don’t recall that the late Freddie Mercury was ever much celebrated for his lyrics, but this one hit the spot. Snigger if you will at my enshrining of these happy little pop lyrics, but they work for me! Thanks Freddie!

Fat Bottomed Girls

I have found a great deal of solace from pop culture, especially song lyrics. I believe my life has been saved, redeemed, enhanced, justified, and made worthwhile from hearing the right song at the right time. Certainly life as I know it would be unrecognizable without these significant works. In a larger sense, I have found purpose and meaning through music, which perhaps explains its wide appeal.
