Maybe I spend too much time sending IMs…

If you’ve been following the Olympics at all, I’m sure you’ve heard by now about the Cuban taekwondo athlete who kicked a referee after he was disqualified from a match. A day later, the athlete and his coach received lifetime bans as a result of their actions. I’m not here to debate the fairness of that decision, or to speculate on the mental state that led to the attack. No, I’m here to jump off in a completely different direction. Just read the following excerpt from the AP story, keeping in mind the common abbreviations used in IMs, and I think you’ll see what I found so amusing:

“…lifetime ban of the coach and athlete in all championships sanctioned by the World Taekwondo Federation and at the same time, all records of this athlete at the Beijing Games will immediately be erased, said the announcer, reading a WTF release…”
