We got away for a day this weekend – one last trip for the year to CC’s cottage she has christened “Carmelot.” Along the way, we stopped in the sleepy town of Amboy, Illinois (pop. 2,500, conveniently located in the middle of nowhere). It was I who insisted we do so – I wanted to visit the establishment shown above. On our last trip that way, I enjoyed the very best lemon chill I can recall having, so I wanted to relive the magic. Alas, they had closed for the season. I bear them no ill will for doing so; it was just my bad luck.
Still, I regard their lemon chill highly enough to pay tribute to them in this journal by running this photo, and I look forward to renewing my acquaintance with their wares when spring returns. If this image conjures in your mind any impressions of a simpler, quieter place and time, then my efforts have not been in vain!
