Never So Glad to See Icicles

Why am I so glad to see icicles? Aren’t they all over the place this time of year? Well no, not necessarily. For some time now, it’s been way too cold for them to form to any great extent. Today, the temperature has soared to a balmy 22 degrees. Hell, we hadn’t even seen a double-digit temperature for several days. Oh wait, I take that back – it was 15 below zero the other day! 22 above zero may technically still be under freezing, but it’s warm enough to get some melt going in selected spots, and just about ideal for the formation of icicles. So while the above photo may be a forbidding sign of frigid weather to some, it’s a beautiful sight today!

I have had a huge collection of icicles on my house since the first big snowstorm, and they are only getting bigger!

Well, there are two ways they can go away -- either by gradually melting or by breaking off and crashing to earth as a great crystal dagger. So do please watch your step!

Thanks for the warning. I have considered that! I admire them from afar. :p
