An Apocryphal Tale of Fury

This photo is from a dusty corner of my personal archives.

This was my father’s car many years ago. If I remember correctly, all 8 of us (my 7 siblings and I) learned how to drive in this boat. It was a 1968 Plymouth. They called this model the Suburban, though it was really a station wagon version of the Plymouth Fury.

I well remember the day I went outside to discover a discarded hypo resting on the car’s hood. Yes, our trusty station wagon had suddenly been transformed into the Fury With the Syringe on Top.

When I take you out, tonight, with me,
Honey, here's the way it's goin' to be:
You will sit behind a team of cool steel horses
In the slickest gig you ever did see!

Pimps and hos and bums better scurry
When I take you out in the Fury,
When I take you out in the Fury with the syringe on top!

Yep, there's a musical in there just waitin' to happen.... Detroit Rock City meets Rent!

Nice! :-D

Now you've got me thinking--
O-o-o-o-o-o-o-ldsmobile has gone away, now Chrysler's done the same.
You can blame the banks, and give them spanks,
But they're immune from feeling shame...

The Fury

Take note of the old wheelcovers. Dad painted the centers blue to match the car and cover up the Buick logo. Also...I'm told that at least 2 O'Connor kids also learned to drive in this car. It was 4 years old when Dad bought it in 1972. Soon after we got it I can recall making the mile or two walk with him up to the Ziebart shop to pick up our newly rust-proofed car. It smelled pretty bad for a long time after that as the rustproofing baked on hot parts of the undercarriage. FG
