Chuck’s Amazing Fact #2

It has been demonstrated in a rigidly controlled study that the “Five-Second Rule” for picking up and eating a dropped piece of food is scientifically sound – generally speaking, very little in the way of germs or other contaminants will collect on a dropped morsel in that time frame, though the amount of contamination will tend to increase with time. HOWEVER, I can tell you from my own experience that if you drop a cookie under your desk where you can’t reach it, and you use your shoe to nudge it up to where you can reach it, it will pick up substantially more in the way of discernible contaminants than if you had crawled under the desk and picked it up. Whether or not you would then proceed to eat it anyway – that’s a personal choice and I will offer no advice on how one should proceed; nor will we discuss what I chose to do with said cookie.
