Songwriting

Seamus Lives!

A year and a half ago, as long-time readers may recall, I was one of the finalists in a contest held by the Chicago Tribune. The object was to write an Irish Pub Song in honor of St. Patrick’s Day. The winning entry had their lyrics set to music by a local Irish musician.

We runners-up had the honor of seeing our names and lyrics printed in the paper, and we each received a genuine Irish tin whistle as a consolation prize. It was a lot of fun, but that song, like the newsprint upon which it was printed, soon blew away and faded into dim memory.

Or so I thought. It seems that one man in Michigan never forgot about it. That would be my brother Gregory. I received an e-mail from him this morning with an mp3 file tacked on. Greg has gone ahead and written and recorded a melody to go with my lyrics! I couldn’t be more honored. Thank you Greg!

EDIT— It was my intention to include a link to the mp3 file, but I haven't yet gotten it to work. When I do, I'll update this post!
