“Oh look, she’s blogging! Awww…”

CC became a great-aunt in October. Specifically, her one and only sister’s one and only daughter had her first child. The little tyke is doing fine and growing like a weed, just as little tykes have been doing for eons. But some parts of the process have changed in recent years…

We received word yesterday that the little 4-month-old darling has started her first blog. I will not share the address here, but I’ve had a look at it and I am forced to speculate that she may be receiving help. My first clue was in this actual quote from the journal:

“I surprise myself everyday, when I roll over and try to sit up like a big girl!”

I’m willing to accept the notion that she, even at 4 months, may be fluent with computers. After all, they get easier to use all the time, and I frequently read postings that possess a depth of thought suggestive of an infant. But that final phrase, “…like a big girl!” strikes me as suspicious. I must seriously wonder whether we are actually reading a loose interpretation of something the child communicated to a parent, which has then been contaminated with the parent’s own assumptions.

I will continue to monitor the situation. In the meantime, I would like to share what I believe is a more accurate representation of a 4-month-old’s blog:

Feb. 1 – 5:37 a.m.
Made wet. Good feeling, as always.

6:02 a.m.
Great hunger, so very upset. Made sound to call for food. Mama came and fed me. Love Mama. Then she took wetness away and put dryness on me. Good feeling.

7:14 a.m.
Made wet and poop together. Good times.

7:38 a.m.
I know Mama going to leave soon. I have learned the signs. Different smells, different colors. She quickly takes away wetness and poop and puts dryness on me. She goes away. I hope she will come back.

8:13 a.m.
Dada here now. Dada feeds me. Not like Mama, but still good. Bright light is here!
