Red Wings1

The Detroit Red Wings have won the Stanley Cup! They knocked off the Pittsburgh Penguins 3-2 tonight to win the series in 6 games. The end of the game was an absolute nail-biter, with the potential tying goal going just wide as time expired.

I’ve been following these playoffs pretty intently and am now able to relax in quiet euphoria. This group of Red Wings is one of the most skilled collections of hockey players you could ever wish to see. This is one year when most fans would probably agree that the champions were clearly the best team in the league. Congratulations to the Stanley Cup champion Red Wings!

Other hockey news — The Pittsburgh Penguins’ top farm team, the Wilkes-Barre/Scranton Penguins of the American Hockey League, has also made it to the finals of the AHL playoffs. The team they are going up against is none other than our own Chicago Wolves. Tonight, the Wolves beat the Penguins to take a 3 games to none lead in their best of 7 series, so a hockey cup may soon be coming to Chicago!

Still more hockey news — The hot rumor, which, if true, should be formally announced very soon, says that the Chicago Blackhawks will be playing the Detroit Red Wings in January – at Wrigley Field! I really hope this is true, as it would be quite a spectacle. As long as I’m in a hoping mood, I hope I can score tickets to it!
