Dumbest question I’ve been asked lately*

A coworker asked, “Can I get you anything at Lulu’s?”

I know we’ve talked about this before, but I just want you to know that Lulu’s is still irresistible.

* Other than my last visit to the McDonald’s at Clark & Bryn Mawr:
Me: “I’d like a number 9 combo to go.”
Cashier: “Is that for here?”

Long Tall Glasses - Leo Sayer

Was this the work of an urban art critic?

Long-time readers of this journal may remember this sculpture. I wrote about it last summer, shortly after it appeared on a street corner in my neighborhood. There was no apparent artist’s signature and no plaque identifying the piece, so there it stood as an odd little mystery that I would pass every morning on my way to the train.

Well, here’s what it looks like now:

Eep! We now have a new mystery. It appears that someone has made off with the main part of the sculpture. There appears to be a wide range of possible motives. It could have been hauled away for its scrap value. It could have been disposed of by a disapproving art critic. It could have been reclaimed by the artist. It could even (let’s get really crazy here) have been taken by someone who wanted to enshrine it in their home. We may never know. But if you were planning to view it on your next trip to Chicago (along with The Bean in Millennium Park and the Picasso outside the Daley Center), I wanted to make sure you had the bad news so you could adjust your vacation plans accordingly.
