Comfort is Subjective

I have occasionally been urged by others to make sure my kitties have cozy, soft places upon which to roost. Well, without even making a conscious effort to do so, I find that I have provided a wide array of such locations in my apartment. There are beds, couches, pillows, ottomans, and even a few piles of clothing all accessible for my kitties’ pleasure, even if none of these cozy niches were originally created or positioned with any nod toward indulging kitty’s whims.

But it is not up to we humans to decide what constitutes a state of comfort for our kitties. They do not want things simply because we have given them; they want what they want. I offer in evidence the following photo, taken just this morning, showing Cy’s latest choice of roosting place.

Now in a month or two, when the weather turns colder, I can assure you that this particular radiator will invariably be the hottest spot in the whole apartment, so he may not find it so very comfortable come the winter. But for now, if this is his pleasure, it is beyond my power, or anyone else’s, to say him nay.

IMO the ear fold gives Cy a rakish air. There is a breed of cat called the Scottish Fold that has both ears folded. In case you didn't see it on Cats 101, a litter of kittens was born years ago with the mutation, and subsequent generations of the cat were bred to keep the ear fold in the genome. If the ear stays bent, you can tell people that Cy is a half-breed.

I used to have a heating pad to soothe my aching bones, but last winter my cat Bijou decided that it was his personal property. Any time that I used it, I invariably would end up with a cat sitting on top of the heating pad that was sitting on me. 12 pounds of cat on top of aching bones kind of defeats the purpose of the heat treatment. After repeatedly trying to remove both cat and cat fur from the heating pad, I finally decided that the heating pad did indeed belong to Bijou. Fortunately, a second heating pad is not an expensive purchase.

While on the subject of cats, the creative minds behind The Mean Kitty Song have a new vid on YouTube that I really like. Gravity Cats uses excellent editing to 'prove' a ridiculous premise.

Yes, I am a great fan of both Cats 101 and Dogs 101 so I'm familiar with the Scottish Fold!
