Maybe part of coming out of that was a bit of fun I had last night. Two people I’ve known since the late 70’s, Mark and Joelene, came to Chicago from Michigan to celebrate their 25th wedding anniversary, and I got to spend some time with them. In fact, they were able to come to TnT and saw me as caterer Vinnie Black. They’re both performers as well – actors, singers, puppetry; you name it, so they had a more informed perspective on the folderol and mayhem that we presented to them in the course of the show. I’ve spent many a fine holiday evening sitting around our friend Maggie’s living room singing while Mark played the guitar.
We went out after the show to O’Brien’s, a very nice bar/restaurant on North Wells, where we spent the next few hours getting caught up. We’ve hardly seen one another at all in the past decade, so there was a lot of ground to cover. But they kept buying me white Russians (I had 3, which is a lot for me!), and the time tumbled by until it was time to say goodnight.
At this point, I’m trying to get my schedules coordinated for a trip to Michigan in mid-January, so with any luck, I may be seeing them again soon!
