No, this isn’t a tribute to The Police, fond as I am of them. I just wanted to point out that today marks the 198th birthday of Abraham Lincoln – as well as the 198th birthday of Charles Darwin! Yep, they were both born on February 12th 1809. I wonder what the astrologers can come up with looking back at the celestial alignments on that day!

It reminds me (to paraphrase Tom Lehrer) of the sobering thought that when Mozart was my age, he’d been dead for thirteen years!

And how about this for a near synchronicity: Charlie Chaplin was born on April 16th, 1889. Four days later, Adolf Hitler was born. Consider that they are both known for their little square mustaches, as well as for their memorable performances before adoring audiences. Oh, and if you’ve ever seen The Great Dictator, this cosmic kinship between the two is underlined even more profoundly.

as long as you're on the subject...

Another interesting bit of trivia about ol' Adolf... there were two contributors to history that almost never were... one a result of incest, the other was - if I'm not mistaken - a rape (unknown assailant I believe). At any rate, both were almost aborted, but then weren't... one was Hitler, the other Michaelangelo.
