I’ve just gotten done watching the Detroit Red Wings knock off the Calgary Flames in game 6 of their first round NHL playoff series. The Detroit victory ends the Flames’ season and pushes the Red Wings into round 2. Since 16 teams go the playoffs, it takes 4 rounds to determine the Stanley Cup winner, and if this first round is any indication and the Red Wings go to the finals, I am going to be a wreck by then! Game 6 was tied 1-1 at the end of regulation, and the game didn’t end until the second overtime period, so I’ve just had several hours of breathless drama unfold in front of me.

It seems that none of the “experts” are picking the Wings to win it all, in spite of the fact that the team finished with the best record in their conference. I can’t say I blame the experts for feeling that way, given Detroit’s recent performance in the playoffs. They’ve developed a distressing habit the last several years of tearing up the league during the regular season, only to be bounced out of the playoffs in the first or second round, so I must admit I jumped out of my seat in genuine elation when Johan Franzen’s blast zinged over the left shoulder of Flames’ goalie Miikka Kiprusoff for the game winner. I should also point out that I looked up both of those players on the Internet to verify the spelling of their names, in case you’re wondering whether I might have a sticky key on my keyboard.

So we’ll find out Monday night whether the Wings’ next opponent will be the Dallas Stars or the San Jose Sharks. Yikes. It only gets harder from here on out. I’m going to have to try to wind down for the night now and get some rest – I’m going to need that energy in a few days when round 2 begins!

Oh maaaan am I glad that we ended it last night. If Calgary had won, I would have... I would have bombed something. Something Canadian.

I need a break too, I am losing sleep over hockey! After tonight's game we'll have a bit of a rest. I hope we play Dallas, only because it's less of a time zone jump.

Also, random bad news: it appears that my road trip buddies want to go to Milwaukee first, so that I would only be spending Saturday night (and--hopefully--all day Sunday) in Chicago. I'm too tired to argue with them. So tell me RIGHT away if they had a Sunday show.

Here's the scoop - we have a TnT show at 7 p.m. on Saturday the 19th but no show on Sunday that week. It would be a sad thing if you cannot make it on Saturday, but if that's what happens, I would be happy to show you the way to the best Sunday brunch place in town on Sunday, if you don't have other plans. At the very least, I hope we get to actually meet! I will send other important info via email.

Alas, my concert is at 8:00 on Saturday. Sigh. I'm going to plead for at least one day in Chicago. It's turning out to be a much shorter road trip than I intended, because some people have to work on Monday. I'll let you know when plans are finalized, which will hopefully be soon, as I need to book a hotel...

Well, to reiterate -- the Friday show starts at 8 p.m. if you end up being in Chi that night.
Also -- did you receive the email I sent? I just wanted to make sure since I pulled the address from your user info page.

Ah yes, it appears that I have! I'm glad you said something, I get so much email that I can't even keep track of it.
